Term 1 is always a busy one for the sixth form staff and students at GIS. In addition to the extensive work that A Level courses require, the team works tirelessly to ensure that every student benefits from personalised 1:1 support to ensure they are well equipped to make informed choices with regards their journey beyond sixth form.

To ensure students are well prepared, GIS have established structured programmes to help students fine tune their thinking skills, their ability to lucidly convey ideas and generally to present themselves in the best possible way. In light of the additional demands that such competitive applications can place on students, we offer wellbeing opportunities, including the chance to meet with our counselling team if and when required. After all, a healthy mind is imperative for what can be an incredibly challenging process.
For our Oxbridge candidates, Mr Smith (Oxbridge Coordinator) and Mrs Phillips (Higher Education Advisor), facilitate a comprehensive program that ensures that our students have mentoring support to help them prepare for these applications with regular small group and individual enrichment sessions. Equally, our medical applicants have been developing their knowledge and understanding of medical careers whilst honing key skills through our MedSoc provision and regular small group and individual preparation sessions.
At GIS we are very proud of the provision to support our students in finding the most suitable pathways after sixth form. A huge amount of work is poured into every application, to ensure students have the best possible chance of success. Our sincere thanks to all of the team- and particularly Head of Year 13 Mr Robinson and our excellent and committed team of Year 13 tutors – who also play an instrumental part in this process.
Well done to all of our students for the successes they have already achieved and best wishes for upcoming interviews and remaining applications. Thank you also to our Year 13 parents that provide pivotal support in helping us bring out the best in our students.
Dr. Browning, Head of Sixth Form
