GIS A Level students benefit from a unique maths mentoring programme
We are delighted to announce the news that we have partnered with the University of Bristol, as one of a small number of selected schools to offer our A Level students access to a specialist maths mentoring programme.
The initiative is open to all Year 12 and Year 13 Further Maths students and takes place fortnightly in small groups. The sessions, which are conducted virtually are led by final year undergraduate and masters level university students (currently studying BSc and MSc Mathematics) and cover a range of further maths topics identified by the GIS Mathematics Faculty (as well as the students themselves), to ensure all additional study complements and enhances what is learnt as part of the Further Maths A-Level programme. It is an extraordinary opportunity for the GIS students taking part, who not only benefit from a deeper insight into their mathematics study, but also the opportunity to work with a maths specialist and mentor from a highly regarded academic institution (top 100 university).
Year 13 student Nicole Choong who has recently accepted a place to study Computer Science at the University of Cambridge said of the programme: “Bristol mentoring has given me the chance to apply my syllabus knowledge to more complex questions and challenge my problem solving skills.”
The programme has provided GIS students unique exposure to new maths challenges and ways of thinking, as well as the extraordinary opportunity to benefit from such valuable mentorship. The partnership has proven an excellent collaboration between Garden International School and University of Bristol mathematics faculties, and we are extremely proud that we’re able to offer our students such an invaluable opportunity. This programme, combined with our wide range of CCA’s, the GIS Diploma, THRIVE work experience programme and weekly schedule of extended subjects and enrichment studies helps to broaden and enhance our students’ learning.
