How best to measure the success of a school? One need not look much further than its students, and the graduating Sixth Form class of 2021 at GIS is certainly no exception. Proudly reflective of the school’s genuinely inclusive nature, building upon 70 years of academic excellence and showing that a global pandemic certainly will not curtail their ambitious plans, graduating students from GIS move on to a broad range of prestigious institutions across the globe in 2021.
Having celebrated yet another set of outstanding academic results in 2021 across 21 subjects studied at A Level, with 73% of all grades awarded A*/A (over 49% A*), and a tremendous 62% of students achieving at least 3 A*/A across their subjects, it is no surprise that students from GIS are sought after by the world’s best universities.
What’s more, the GIS Diploma, comprising the THRIVE Internship Programme, GIS Electives and expert Higher Education advice, ensures that students receive tailored support as they prepare to embark upon the journey beyond school.
As a school that celebrates the learning journey and achievements of every student, there is no one notable success at GIS. Instead, we are delighted to share that a notable 99% have been accepted by their first or second choice university, demonstrating their keen ambition, as they will study 36 unique courses in 49 individual institutions across 13 different countries. Such lofty aspirations and the breadth of opportunities they will now pursue is testament to GIS’s distinctive emphasis on personalised learning.
In addition, a remarkable 1 in 5 of GIS students will attend a global top 10 institution, including the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and University College London. Indeed, a commendable 1 in 2 GIS students in 2021 will be attending a top-100 university globally. Our students have obtained places on a range of highly- competitive and desirable courses, including neuroscience, medicine and veterinary science, law and economics, social sciences and psychology, and computer science and engineering. Their extraordinary talent has also gained them acceptance to musical theatre, fine art and illustration degrees.
Our Higher Education programme at GIS offers students personalised acadademic care at each step of their university guidance and application process. We are thrilled to have supported this wonderfully talented cohort – may it be via our one-on-one higher education sessions, Higher Education Days Programme, Medic and Oxbridge CCAs or even the Mock Interview Programme – so that they can fulfil their diverse aspirations across courses and countries globally.

We commend all the students for their remarkable achievements in a year of increased competition for places and challenges posed by the pandemic. While the majority now leave GIS for the UK, some will remain in Asia (Universities of Singapore and Hong Kong) and Australia (Universities of Sydney and Melbourne). Others will head to Canada (Universities of Toronto and McGill), the USA (Princeton, the University of California and Georgia Tech), as well as Mainland Europe (Universities of Milan, Maastricht and Warsaw and Trinity College, Dublin).
